The Bittersweet Goodbye to Youngins Thursdays: A Season 1 Review and Season 2 Expectations

Hey there, fellow Youngins enthusiasts! It's hard to believe that our beloved Thursdays,
affectionately dubbed "Youngins Thursdays," have come to an end.
The first season of this captivating teen series has left us with a void that can't be filled,
and I'm still reeling from the emotional rollercoaster that was the finale.

A Perfect Season 1

What made Youngins truly special was its unwavering commitment to its main storyline,
tackling the sensitive topic of pedophilia and its far-reaching consequences.
The show's ability to balance multiple storylines and character arcs was impressive,
making each episode a joy to watch. The unbreakable bond between Mahlatse and Tumelo was a highlight, best!
If there was an award for best friends, they'd win hands down!

The show's portrayal of Sefako's secret relationship with Mgweri was another aspect that kept me invested.
I was convinced that Sefako loved Tumelo when he cried after their breakup,
and I was hoping season 1 would end with them back together.
Although that didn't happen, I'm hoping season 2 will explore their storyline further.
One aspect that left me wanting more was the underdevelopment of Sefako's storyline as a closeted gay character.
I wish the show had delved deeper into his journey and struggles,
as it would have added another layer of depth to the series.
The finale's surprise kiss between Amo and Khaya felt like a misstep,
betraying Mahlatse's trust and leaving a sour taste in my mouth.
Despite these minor quibbles, the show's conclusion was satisfying,
with the principal's exposure being a particular highlight.
Pearl's transformation from unwitting accomplice to advocate for the students was inspiring,
and her bravery in standing up for the kids and confronting the truth about her boyfriend, the principal, was commendable.

Season 2 Predictions

As we eagerly await season 2, I have some prediction:

  • Amo and Buhle will likely become sworn enemies, fueled by their rivalry over Khaya.
  • Mahlatse will struggle with depression and heartbreak, potentially leading to a decline in his school work and even suicidal thoughts.
  • A new openly gay character will shake things up for Tumelo and Sefako, forcing Sefako to confront his feelings and possibly come out.
  • Khaya's academic struggles will lead to a dramatic repeat of grade 12, and I'm eager to see how his story unfolds.

Most importantly, I hope the show will continue to tackle tough topics
and deliver the same level of drama and excitement that made season 1 so unforgettable.
Tshedza will undoubtedly bring more drama, and I'll be waiting with bated breath.
Farewell, Youngins Thursday – my Thursdays will never be the same without you.
Bring on season 2! The wait will be long, but I'm confident it will be worth it.

Rating: 5/5 stars
