Netflix's 'Happiness Ever After' - Movie Review

The sequel to the 2016's Happiness Is A Four Letter Word is a romance that tackle the lives
of Zaza, Princess and Zamkhitha as they start afresh with life against the background
of family feud, new beginnings and loss.

To be honest, I didn't really expect to see the movie having a sequel because
as far as I'm concerned, everything ended perfectly on the first movie. I was NOT
taken by this one as much as I was with the first one, let me tell you why:

Firstly, we were supposed to get all characters on board since  we were revisiting their
lives to see what they have been up to five years later. The thing is, between the three
ladies, Nandi was my favorite so imagine having to watch a sequel and find that your
fave is no longer on the movie, that was disappointing.

Storylines:
Nevertheless, I loved the new girl, Zamkhitha, her storyline was enthralling to watch and
it was the only solid storyline that made me enjoy the movie the most. After breaking up with
her ex, she was totally broken and finding that he's getting married on Instagram, she was
shattered. With Yonda coming to the picture, she finally found healing and new love even
though it did not come easy since Yonda also came with his own baggage of heartbreaks so
it was cute to see them finding each other and put on view that regardless of  numerous
heartbreaks, happily ever after does exist.

Princess's storyline started well but it was just all over the place. To be honest, I thought we'd see
more of her relationship with Maxwell, he seemed like a control freak in the beginning,
which would be interesting to see but that did not happen. I was expecting to see more like,
maybe, the guy become too controlling and then Leo, who just appeared out of the blue, would
be the hero to save her out of that restraining relationship, wouldn't that be interesting to watch?
But what we saw was Leo coming back after five years, apologizes for being away and then
he gets to sleep with woman he left in the middle of pregnancy, which for me was kind of weak.
Her relationship with Maxwell seemed like a fling since they broke up the moment the
baby daddy comes back to right his wrongs.

And then we got to see that Zaza's husband has passed on a year ago and now there's
his sister who wanted her out of her brother's house and all of his estates. Again, her storyline
was not given much effort because we saw that Fakazile wanted to do everything in her power to
make sure that she ends up in the streets and then we also saw that Zaza is dating her attorney lawyer,
which for me would be really interesting to see more of since, on the first movie, she was kind of
attracted to that other guy so if I were to dish out ideas or suggestions, I wouldn't really have killed
the husband, I would've created another affair for Zaza, this time with the lawyer and then the
husband finds out and cut her out completely. with that happening, Zaza would find new
love from the lawyer and end up spending her life with him and they try by all means to
make a life together, wouldn't that really be happiness ever after?

Overview:
The movie was not really boring, not at all. It just felt like a new movie rather
than a sequel. The sex scenes were luscious, saucy and very attractive, I would
like to give appreciation to the actors and their sexy chemistry. The acting was perfect,
both Khanyi and Renate brought back their A-game in portraying their roles once again,
they were beautiful to watch again. I also loved Nambitha's performance, it was perfect but
didn't like the fact that she got to be the narrator of the sequel? What I am trying to bring to
light is that Zaza and Princess were the one who were supposed to narrate the story since they
were welcoming us back into their lives, we really did not need a new perspective on a
continuation of a story, especially this one. With all that being said, I'm giving the movie an
80/100 not because it was a flop but simply because it really did not meet my expectations,
it lacked that fire and their storylines sucked a bit but we can't deny that the production was
beautiful, worthy of Netflix.

The sequel is now streaming on Netflix.com
